Monthly Meetings

We meet on the last Wednesday of each month in the rear hall of Alma Church: 29 Alma Road, Clifton, BS8 2ES.

Visitors

We keep this programme tab updated for anyone interested in coming to a meeting as a visitor. We request £5 per visitor.  

It would be great to see you, with absolutely no obligation to join! Just come see what we get up to, and meet some friendly women from a wide variety of different backgrounds and experiences.  

Members are always invited to bring visitors to our monthly meetings.


2026 PROGRAMME – so far…

January 28th:  Resolutions, ideas and IT tips & know-how. After we've voted on resolutions for the coming year, we will have a discussion / feedback session to help us develop and improve our group, followed by a know-how sharing session to help us improve our online security and improve our IT skills. 

February 25th: Style Session:  We are promised a fun and interactive evening with personal stylist Elise Heptinstall-Holmes who will help us to get the best from our wardrobe choices.

March 25th : Defibrillator Awareness with St John’s Ambulance: We will find out more about defibrillators and how to use them in a session which could help save someone’s life. 

April 29th : Joints, muscles and bones – and how we should care for them. Claire Callaghan, Chartered Physiotherapist, will share some of her 25+ years’ experience on women’s health and Musculo-skeletal issues.

May 27th : An evening with Lizzie Everard of Betty Silk Studio.  Lizzie will be telling us about her experience on the Great British Sewing Bee and what she has been up to since.


Our Events Co-ordinators are working on an exciting programme of speakers and interactive sessions for the months to follow. 

We are always interested to hear of suggestions for future topics and speakers from our members. We try to provide a mixture across the year.

Our 2025 PROGRAMME was as follows:

January 29th : Resolutions and Scottish Country Dancing. After voting on the resolutions for the coming year, we will be led through some (simple!) reels by the Bristol branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.

February 26th : Building a new community / network. Faye Dicker, public speaker, voice-over artist and more, will talk to us about what it takes to get a successful community like Freelance Mum off the ground.

March 26th : A Venetian Trilogy : Gordon Young returns to present 3 award winning short films all shot in Venice.

April 30th : Osteoporosis: Janet Colley from the Royal Osteoporosis Society will join us to talk more about osteoporosis and the work of the ROS.

May 28th  : Ronald McDonald Houses: Ericka Heron, from the Ronald McDonald House Charities (UK) will tell us more about the charity’s work supporting the families of children in hospital across the UK, including the Bristol house based in Royal Fort Road.

June 25th: The Wonders of Doctor Bent:  Our speaker this month is Professor Paul Crawford, a local award-winning author and a leading figure in mental health. He will be talking to us about ‘The Wonders of Doctor Bent’, his twisted literary thriller that delves into criminal accountability and mental health.

July 30thSummer Social –  Gromit Unleashed. It’s walking shoes on for this year’s summer event as we tour Clifton and surrounds to walk part of this year's Wallace and Gromit trail – finishing at the White Lion, Clifton for a spot of liquid refreshment…

August 27th : Avon Wildlife Trust – Denise Rudeford, an ecologist from AWT will tell us more about the flora and fauna close to us in Clifton.

September 24th: Refuge. For Women and Children. Against Domestic Violence.  Lottie Donovan, Community Engagement Executive for Refuge will present details of the vital work Refuge does to support thousands of women and their children

October 29th:  Sensory Processing in and Modulation in Neurodivergence. Our member, Catherine Elsey, an Occupational Therapist, will give us an introduction into aspects of sensory neurodivergence, particularly in relation to children.

Additionally, it is our annual meeting where we agree on our key committee members for the next 12 months and discuss annual business. Every member who attends has a vote.

November 26th: Photography for Everyone.  Get your smartphones ready! Professional photographer Nigel Goldsmith will be teaching us how to get take better photos in this very practical session. 

December 10th:  Christmas Party.  We’ll be celebrating Christmas at Starlings with food, drinks and some additional entertainment…
