Keeping it local this Autumn at Clifton WI

Image
We have a focus on local for our meetings this Autumn September involves local author A A Abbott  talking about her work and how she goes about writing her books In October we are finding out about a recent local restoration project at the River Trym.  This is a small local river which is used for walks by many living in NW Bristol In November, we will learn about one of the most famous of our landmarks in Bristol; the Avon Gorge  At all our meetings you can get to meet other members or visitors, have a drink and generally get a feel for what we like to get up to at Clifton WI.   Visitors are always welcome.   We ask for a £5.00 payment (in cash) but you don't have to commit to join us and can visit up to 3 times.  Please get in touch if you would like any more information thecliftonwi@gmail.com  thecliftonwi@gmail.com

Humidity, Hotwells and Herbs for Health

Image
July Well it was damp..... our July walk around parts of the harbour was certainly 'atmospheric' as the misty rain fell in the back-ways and cobbled streets of Clifton Down/Hotwells to some effect.  The hardy (but small) group of us who ventured out enjoyed ourselves. We all discovered something along the way and a couple of stops for refreshment certainly helped. August On August 30th we will be meeting Jutta Blumenthal and back in our regular monthly venue of the Alma Hall.   Herbs & Remedies Flower Valley Herbs Jutta Blumenthal is a medical herbalist who has practiced in Bristol since 1996, and will show us the use of kitchen herbs for common ailments. August is often a meeting where our attendance numbers are affected by summer holidays but all members and visitors as ever are welcome.   If you are interested in what Clifton WI might be about, perhaps this is a good month to give us a try?  A warm welcome awaits.   The About Us section of ...

For our July meeting at Clifton WI we like to get out and about.   This time we are heading to the Harbour We will meet outside the Nova Scotia Pub at the far end of the harbour at 7.00pm on Weds 26th July.  There is parking in this area in the evening for those who will be driving or sharing lifts. We aim to walk around a route chosen by 2 of our members and return to the pub for a drink at the end.  It will not be the complete harbour walk  Should you not want to join us for the walk but would like to come along any way, please head to the pub for appx 8.15 - 8.30(ish) Visitors are welcome to join us but we do request a payment of £5.00 cash.  This can be a good way to meet some of us Clifton WI members without having to go to a meeting in the hall as your first step.

To sip, gurgle or spit! Tasting wine tips for Clifton WI in May

🍷🍾  We had the chance to try some unusual wines or from places you may not associate with wine production in May.  All were from budget supermarkets and squeezed under the £6.00 per bottle limit. We travelled around Europe and headed off to further destinations in South America, South Africa and Australia.  Gill (one of our members) took us through a generous tasting experience and finished with a quiz to test our knowledge.  The winner Lizzie does grow her own so maybe that gave her an edge?! Thanks Gill it was fun - even for those who were driving so couldn't swallow.
